Status
PRIME is at the design stage. Until recently it existed only as a short overview without module-level content. A design plan (February 2026) sets out its intended architecture. This page describes that plan, not a finished program.
What PRIME is for
PRIME is the advanced end of the ALiF ecosystem: L3, where people can evaluate, design and lead. It is modular and role-specific, and every track ends in supervised applied work.
Five planned tracks
| Track | Proposed focus |
|---|---|
| Clinician | Clinical AI governance, patient safety, evaluating AI tools for clinical deployment |
| Researcher | Research integrity with AI, AI-assisted systematic review, data provenance and reproducibility, bias in research tools |
| Educator | Assessment design where AI is present, AI literacy in health professions curricula, helping others develop AI literacy |
| Administrator | AI procurement, operational risk, data governance, managing AI literacy programs |
| AI Governance | Cross-role track for people in formal AI governance roles: mandate design, conformance auditing, governance of agentic AI, stewardship of the Standard |
Each of the first four tracks is planned to have five modules, the last being a supervised project. Entry is planned after the matching FAIM pathway. The AI Governance track would require SAIL, one of the other PRIME tracks, and a current or planned governance role.
Planned assessment
Every module would include a workshop task reviewed by a subject expert, not self-assessed. Each track would end with a supervised applied project, such as a governance protocol for a clinical AI deployment or a vendor evaluation, assessed by two independent reviewers against explicit L3 criteria.
Recognition
The plan links completion to roles in the ecosystem, for example contributing to ALiF validation research, facilitating FAIM, coordinating AI literacy in an adopting institution, or reviewing future versions of the Standard. These routes are proposals and are not yet in place.
Open design questions
The design plan set entry thresholds partly on self-assessment scores. ALiF 2.0 proposes that self-assessment results are not used in decisions about individuals, so this part of the design will be revised. The ALiF 2.0 work plan also adds supervisor guidance and learning-conditions content for L3 participants, many of whom supervise others.
Versioning and alignment
When released, PRIME will follow the ALiF Program Versioning and Review Policy, keep its own version number, and state that it is aligned with ALiF 2.0.
