What stays the same
The five components, the sixteen sub-competencies and the three progression levels do not change. Evidence gathered on the current structure therefore still applies.
What changes
Six definitions become broader.
- EVA.1 and ETH.1: AI-generated and AI-altered media at work, how to check where it came from, and when to disclose it.
- EVA.2: how AI search and recommendation shape what people see, and recognizing tasks that a tool does not handle reliably.
- EVA.3 and PRA.2: how AI use affects the chances people have to learn and practice, especially newcomers.
- ETH.3: influence and manipulation through AI, and the risk that reliance on AI weakens skills, stops them developing, or teaches the wrong thing.
Four conformance requirements are added.
- Data Literacy First: data understanding and data management are taught before or alongside the first evaluation or ethics module.
- A Learning Conditions Statement for organizations that implement ALiF for their own staff, trainees or students.
- Self-assessment results, attendance records and data on people’s AI use are not used in decisions about individuals, such as hiring, promotion, pay, discipline, clinical privileges or training placements.
- Self-assessment tools state in their documentation that their results are not validated for those decisions.
New guidance. A section on futures of work and the conditions of learning; guidance on reliance calibration; and a note that conformance supports, but does not establish, compliance with any law.
Transition. Implementations that reference the current version have 18 months to move to 2.0, with a migration plan due within 6 months.
Why a major version now
A change to what conformance requires is a major change under the Versioning and Review Policy. Making it before ALiF is launched publicly costs adopters far less than making it later. The review was opened because of changes in AI literacy regulation and in the evidence on how AI deployment affects learning at work.
