Why ALiF publishes its research status
ALiF is in use while its validation continues. Rather than wait for all the evidence, the Standard states openly what has been shown and what has not. This page lists each research item and where it stands. Findings feed into the Standard through the Versioning and Review Policy.
Published
- ALiF Protocol Paper: the method for developing and first validating the ALiF self-assessment questionnaire, published on Preprints.org in November 2024.
Under review
- Organizational Learning Debt conceptual article: the theory of why organizations fall behind the AI they deploy, submitted to PLOS ONE.
Active
- SAQ validation, Phase 1: content validity with an expert panel (5 to 10), cognitive testing (10), a pilot (20 to 30) and exploratory factor analysis.
Planned
- Framework Introduction Paper: a journal article introducing ALiF as a framework, targeting Computers & Education.
- SAQ validation, Phase 2: confirmatory factor analysis (at least 300 respondents), measurement invariance and criterion validity linking questionnaire scores to AI tool use.
- HC-HE Concordance Framework: mapping ALiF components to the accreditation frameworks NCAAA, CAA and WFME.
What the research has to answer
The Standard Roadmap names the key questions: whether the five components hold up as distinct factors, whether the three levels discriminate reliably, whether measurement works the same way across roles and languages, and whether ALiF levels predict outcomes that matter. The answers are not predetermined, and the Standard may change in response.
