What the form is
The Respondent Form is the part of the ALiF Self-Assessment Questionnaire that people actually fill in. Scoring, interpretation and debriefing are handled separately by coordinators using the Administrator Guide.
Structure
| Section | Content |
|---|---|
| Core items | 48 items covering all five ALiF components and their sixteen sub-competencies |
| Role modules | Up to 8 items for each professional role the respondent selects: learner, educator, researcher, clinician or administrator |
Every respondent completes the core section. Role modules are chosen according to the respondent’s work, and a person may select more than one.
How people respond
Each item is rated on a four-point scale (1 to 4) reflecting the respondent’s own experience and confidence. Honest ratings matter: the results are used to recommend where a person should start learning, and inflated ratings lead to unhelpful recommendations. Starting at Foundation level is normal.
The form takes about 20 to 30 minutes, or up to 40 minutes with several role modules. It is designed for individual self-completion, on paper or online. It can be taken in a group setting such as a workshop, but each person completes their own form without help on specific items.
What respondents get back
Coordinators turn the ratings into a core competency profile and a role-specific profile placed on the ALiF levels, then discuss them in a debrief along with a recommended learning pathway. The profile reflects how competent a person believes they are, not a measure of performance, and it is not a credential.
Access
To protect the ongoing validation study, the item wording is not published on this site. The form is provided to coordinators by the ALiF core team, together with the Administrator Guide.
